The WACSRT strives for excellence in developing and promoting locally adapted innovations and approaches for sustainable rural transformation in the West African Sub-region. We seek to develop the manpower and generate the knowledge for social and economic transformation in an interdisciplinary and transnational manner through research and human capacity development.

Specific Objectives:

The WACSRT seeks to:

  • develop and promote new and existing locally-adapted sustainable technologies in the fields of renewable energy generation and agricultural water management and train personnel in their management.
  • develop and promote existing innovative and climate-resilient models in agricultural production, agribusiness and rural marketing for rural transformation.
  • develop and promote new and existing approaches for locally adapted development planning and support capacity development for effective local governance systems across the West African Sub-region.
  • help to disseminate locally adapted sustainable technologies, business models as well as development approaches that have been interdisciplinary proven in a wider West African context.
  • Development of innovative managerial and technological solutions that will contribute to sustainable rural development and political stability in West Africa. Also Training of experts who are able to implement these solutions.
