Ghana’s Ambassador to China Pays Courtesy Call on Mayor of Dalian City’s Representative During Visit to UDS Team

Ghana’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Kojo Bonsu, has paid a courtesy call on Ms. Mu Aofeng, the representative of the Mayor of Dalian City, during his visit to the victorious University for Development Studies (UDS) football team in Dalian, China.

The meeting, which took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere, centered on strengthening the bond of cooperation and friendship between Ghana and China. Both sides exchanged ideas on mutual areas of interest, including education, sports, trade, and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Bonsu used the occasion to highlight the significance of the UDS football team’s triumph in the FISU Universities World Football Tournament, describing it as a victory that went beyond the football pitch. According to him, the UDS achievement in China symbolized a bridge of friendship and understanding between the peoples of Ghana and China.

“This victory is not just for UDS or for Ghana. It is a moment that opens the door to stronger ties between our two countries,” Ambassador Bonsu said. He further disclosed that the President of the Republic of Ghana is expected to pay an official visit to the Chinese President in a fortnight, an engagement that is expected to deepen the already strong bilateral relationship.

In addition, Ambassador Bonsu called for the establishment of a sister-city relationship between Ghana and China to foster closer collaboration in areas of mutual benefit. Ms. Mu Aofeng welcomed the proposal, describing the Ambassador’s visit and the UDS team’s triumph as a historic milestone in Dalian’s international relations.

The meeting was crowned with a dinner organized in honour of the Ambassador and members of the UDS team, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation.

Present at the meeting were the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, the Registrar, Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, and the Director of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu.

The UDS football team recently made history by winning the FISU Universities World Football Tournament in Dalian, becoming the first Ghanaian university to claim the global title.
