The Alumni Association of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has donated an amount of GHC 5,000.00 to the UDS Soccer Team in support of the team’s preparations towards the upcoming University World Cup in China.

The donation, which took place on July 12, 2025, at the University football pitch was presented by the Head of the Alumni Relations Department of UDS, Mr. Tahiru Abdulai Alhassan, on behalf of the President and Executives of the Alumni Association.

In his address, Mr. Tahiru urged the players to remain prayerful and take their spirituality seriously, emphasizing that this is key to avoiding injuries. He recounted the words of the team’s Head Coach Mr. Ibrahim Shaibu Tanko during training, who noted that: “If the team continues training with injury-free, there is no doubt that UDS can win the world cup.”

The Head of the Protocol and Events Management Department of UDS, Mr. Ayuba Ibrahim Alidu who was also present at the event, encouraged the players to take their training seriously and work hard to bring the ultimate trophy home.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the team, the Head Coach and Director of Sports expressed his appreciation to the Alumni Association and appealed for further support to ensure the team’s adequate preparation.

The team captain. Mohammmed Asigri whislt thanking the UDS Alumni Association, also called on individuals, corporate bodies, and other well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate the gesture, stressing that such donations will boost the morale of the players.

Also present at the ceremony were the assistant coaches, members of  the technical support team, and officers from the Directorate of Public Affairs.
