UDS Nyankpala Campus Students Receive Support After Gas Explosion Incident
The University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala Campus, has received significant support for two level 100 students who were injured in a gas cylinder explosion at their private hostel in September 2024.
The students, drawn from the Faculty of Agriculture and the School of Veterinary Medicine, sustained severe injuries in the incident. Following an appeal by the University through the Office of the Dean and Vice Dean of Students, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) donated GH¢50,000 to the UDS Nyankpala Campus to support their recovery.

Fifty percent of the donation was disbursed directly to the two affected students to aid their medical treatment and rehabilitation. The families of the victims have expressed deep appreciation to both the University and the NPA for the timely intervention.
Prior to the NPA’s donation, the University through the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the broader UDS community had mobilized support to help settle medical bills amounting to GH¢15,000. This amount included contributions from individuals outside the University.
The Dean of Students’ Office (DOSA) has thanked all individuals and institutions who contributed to the recovery of the students and wished them a speedy and complete recovery. The students are expected to resume their studies soon.

Speaking on the development, the Principal of the Nyankpala Campus, Professor Muhammed Muniru Iddrisu, commended the Dean of Students’ Office for its efforts and, on behalf of the University community, expressed gratitude to all sponsors and supporters. He also appealed to the general public to continue supporting the victims and assured the students and their families of the University’s continued support until full recovery.
